To fulfill her Service Learning Requirement, Californian Global University student, Cynthia, found a way to teach her Missionettes an unforgettable lesson. In the games and activities that go along with the Fall Festival at her church, Cynthia wanted to bring an age appropriate message of salvation.
She began with a chalk board illustration showing that sin has caused a chasm between God and man. Cynthia related God’s amazing plan to send His Son to be our Savior. She drew a cross bridging the chasm explaining that Jesus lay down His life to pay for our sin.
Cynthia then carefully taught the ABCs of salvation:
- Admit that we are sinners (Rom. 3:23)
- Believe in Jesus to forgive our sins (Acts 16:31)
- Confess our sins (I John 19)

A unique requirement of Global University’s courses is that the student must find a means to apply in real life what a particular course is teaching. Challenged by what she had been studying in the course Cross Cultural Communications, GU student Jessie from Alabama joined a team traveling to Kenya. There she found many opportunities to put into practice the concepts she had studied.
In churches, Jessie testified, preached, and worshiped with Kenyan brothers and sisters. She taught in the Bible School and held mini-crusades. In orphanages she played games with the children, prayed for them, and hugged them. She assured them that God wants to be their loving Father who will never abandon or abuse them. On the streets, in the slums, in humble homes, Jessie blew bubbles to make children laugh, changed baby diapers, ate meals, and shared her water. She and fellow team members made food for 150 people and with it fed over 400! Jessie told the people that Jesus loves them so much that He died for them on the cross. She taught the love of Jesus in words and demonstrated it in her actions.

Victor, a Global University student in Kenya, had been studying the course Paul’s Salvation Letters: Galatians and Romans when he went to minister to a group of about 60 people. Many were discouraged after an incident of mass killings in their area and some were grieving for loved ones who were among the victims.
How could Victor minister to such hopelessness? How does a person bring answers to the questions such an event inevitably rouses? He directed them to God’s Word.
When you cross deep rivers I will be with you, and you won’t drown. When you walk through fire, you won’t be burned or scorched by the flames. Isaiah 43:2

Assignment: Develop a gospel witness around your personal testimony of how Jesus Christ became your Lord and Savior. Then present the gospel through your testimony in at least five different evangelism encounters.
Testimony of Conversion
I was born in 1949 in Doussi, Upper Volta (presently called Burkina Faso). My father was a polygamist, but I knew a happy childhood and was raised in the tradition and the Bwaba traditional religion.
After finishing primary and secondary education in my country, I received advanced military training in military schools in France. In 1980, I returned to Burkina Faso from the Superior School of Military Engineering in Versailles, France and was called to serve in the Government as the Minister of Public Works, Transportation and Urbanism. I was a captain in the army. At that time, I took advantage of my position and youth, and my success with no thought of God, assured "that my future was before me," as one says in my country. But in September 1982, our government was overthrown by a military coup état, and a revolutionary regime was installed. As was the case for many others both in the military and in civilian functions, I was imprisoned and removed from active military service. It goes without saying that this was not easy for my family and me. Nevertheless, it was by this path that the Lord chose to call me to Himself.

Homework Assignment Leads to 30 Conversions in East Africa
Meshach is a Global University student at the East Africa School of Theology in Nairobi, Kenya. One of the assignments for his “Bible and Missions” undergraduate course was to work with a team from his local church in organizing an evangelistic outreach geared toward people from another culture. His sermon focused on the simple and timeless message of Christ’s love for a lost world. “Christ has given us the power for the ministry of bringing others to the Savior through the Great Commission,” Meshach reported. Both a church service and an open-air meeting were held, with 30 people accepting God’s gift of salvation, and many other church members recommitting their lives to the Lord.
