Faith Triumphs Over Ancestral Worship in Korean Community

Reports from Global University Students in the Field

One of Global University’s students in Korea, Chur Llen Pahk, used the message of faith from Hebrews 11:16 at a funeral service. Chur’s Global course God and Angels prepared him for a divine appointment. Every course of Global is designed to equip students for practical ministry. For this course, Chur chose to develop a gospel witness from his personal story of salvation.

Chur went to a funeral service of one of the members of his church. He knew that he would have an opportunity to witness for Christ. He especially wanted to reach the unbelievers who would be present. Most of the people who came were senior citizens who venerated their ancestors. Confucianism is prevalent in this part of Korea, and the people who accept Confucianism have a ritual ceremony for their deceased ancestors at funerals. Chur entitled his message “Our Eternal Home”. His message, under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, struck deep in the hearts and minds of those present. Seven people made decisions to accept Christ. Others came to Chur afterwards to ask questions about the ritual ceremony of their deceased family members. Chur’s message was a ray of truth that penetrated the spiritual darkness of their tradition.

Chur as a Global University student exemplifies the dynamic combination of God’s Word spoken appropriately through God’s servant at an opportune time. The knowledge and skill gained through studying with Global prepared him for that moment in his ministry.

From a Secret Location in North Africa

Feature Stories

Four years ago we had the privilege to partner with an AG missionary who was sent to a country in North Africa to start a Bible school. He was invited by a group of Pentecostal churches that were interested in becoming an Assemblies of God fellowship.

He contacted me at ICI and asked if we could help him get undergraduate Bible college materials in French. French is the main language in this country. But he didn’t have the money for the materials. So through Project Timothy we helped him get the college courses for 20 students. We did this for 2 years. In February 2004 they had the first graduation for this Bible school with 18 graduates. In 2005, 13 more graduated.

At the time of the 2004 graduation a national Assemblies of God fellowship was also formed with 12 congregations. One of these new churches has already quadrupled in size and started two daughter churches. This country is 97% Muslim where there is a lot of persecution of Christians, but God is working a miracle.

Touching San in the Desert

Feature Stories

A Global University student in Namibia recently reported on a cross-cultural evangelistic outreach to the San people which he organized to complete the Service Learning Requirement for the Global University course Introduction to Missions.

The student trained eighteen of his church’s members to go 20 kilometers outside their town to a place where some of the people of the San tribe were. This tribe has been classified as an un-reached people group. They have one of the world’s most complex languages and live in remote areas of the Kalahari Desert. Their lifestyle is nomadic as they move frequently to find food and water.
