When David Chol Deng, Global University student in Kenya, completed the course, A Strategy for Church Growth, he shared a vision with his home church. Inspired by what he had learned, he spoke about geographical growth, church planting, and evangelism.
Accepting the challenge he gave, this church became a base for enacting a plan that would see David’s vision become reality.
The challenge began with fasting and prayer. David then set a two part goal: to win the lost and to establish a new church in a specific geographical location.
To fulfill part one of his goal, to win the lost, David planned an Evangelistic Crusade. He chose and prepared tracts to be distributed.
In order to reach part two of his goal, to establish a church, David formed a small team of people. With drawings and charts, he emphasized the principles of the Indigenous Church. He clearly showed the Biblical concept that a church must be established and grow as a self supporting, self-governing, and self-propagating entity.
The combined efforts of a local congregation, praying people, a trained team, and a man with a vision, are reaping ongoing results in the new church that has been planted and in the individual lives which have been changed.
David reports on his challenge like this: “I realized that for any success, one must rely upon the Lord. For ministry to succeed and flourish, it needs determination, sacrifice, and a man full of commitment.” Speaking of those who were part of the team, David says, “…they realized that God can work with just a few people who have a heart of determination.” As the Bible says, “…there is no limitation to the Lord to save by many or by few.” I Samuel 14:6b.
Praise God for Global University’s role in this victory. You, too, are part of this new church plant as you support Global University through prayer and finances. Thank you for your commitment to God and to this ministry.
