Global University courses generally have a portion in which students are asked to fulfill ministry assignments that require utilizing their studies in real-life situations. These assignments often lead to surprising places and incredible results.
When Treneta in Canada began her Global University undergraduate course, Preparing and Preaching Bible Messages, she did not realize that her service portion of that course would take her into prison.
Treneta went with a team to minister at a women’s prison. Through worship, preaching, prayer and dance, they shared the grace of God with the prisoners.
As Treneta prepared her sermon, she felt led of the Lord to give a salvation message about how God’s grace is freedom to your soul. Reflecting on her own life, she shared, “God gave me grace when I had failed Him, yet He never has failed me. He supports me, and in service to Him, others can see and believe that I have eternal life. When I fully receive God’s grace and am no longer condemned, I can move forward.”
Treneta explained to the women that because of God’s grace, their pasts did not determine their future. God had not given up on them. God can change anyone. She assured each woman that had she been the only one on earth, Jesus would have demonstrated His love through His sacrifice for her.
Tears filled the eyes of many as they listened to Treneta’s message. They were relieved to know that God had not turned His back on them in spite of their sin.
After a time of worship and following Treneta’s message, the group prayed for the 30 prisoners. Several women came for personal prayer; ten more filled out prayer request forms. Although for security reasons, they could not find out how many specifically made decisions for Christ, Treneta left the prison knowing that God’s grace had been made known to those women.
Later Treneta wrote, “God often prepares a sermon with plans to touch the listeners for a specific occasion. However, He often surprises us with other hearts who also needed that message at the appointed time….We all need to receive God’s grace for His people to be free.”
Once again, a simple class assignment became an opportunity for a Global University student to share God’s grace. Would you help Global University continue to provide students with the training and tools they need to share the freedom that comes through Jesus Christ?
