A unique requirement of Global University’s courses is that the student must find a means to apply in real life what a particular course is teaching. Challenged by what she had been studying in the course Cross Cultural Communications, GU student Jessie from Alabama joined a team traveling to Kenya. There she found many opportunities to put into practice the concepts she had studied.
In churches, Jessie testified, preached, and worshiped with Kenyan brothers and sisters. She taught in the Bible School and held mini-crusades. In orphanages she played games with the children, prayed for them, and hugged them. She assured them that God wants to be their loving Father who will never abandon or abuse them. On the streets, in the slums, in humble homes, Jessie blew bubbles to make children laugh, changed baby diapers, ate meals, and shared her water. She and fellow team members made food for 150 people and with it fed over 400! Jessie told the people that Jesus loves them so much that He died for them on the cross. She taught the love of Jesus in words and demonstrated it in her actions.
She sought to love others as Jesus loves them. Jessie listened to their stories, learned something of their culture, and set aside her own traditions. She says, “Jesus does not have a western worldview. The best way is to bring Jesus Christ crucified and to leave all traditions at home.” In her three weeks of ministry in Kenya, 100 people accepted Jesus as Savior and 30 were baptized in the Holy Spirit.
Reflecting on her Kenya experience, Jessie commented, “I feel very blessed to have learned from the people of Kenya. I believe my faith has been strengthened.”
The pure Gospel of Jesus Christ, spoken and demonstrated in love, knows no cultural barriers. “Go ye therefore and teach all nations....” Matthew 28:19
Global University has taken on this challenge of teaching all nations. We are also teaching our students to take on the challenge. What about you?
