Sharing Hope

Reports from Global University Students in the Field

Victor, a Global University student in Kenya, had been studying the course Paul’s Salvation Letters: Galatians and Romans when he went to minister to a group of about 60 people. Many were discouraged after an incident of mass killings in their area and some were grieving for loved ones who were among the victims.

How could Victor minister to such hopelessness? How does a person bring answers to the questions such an event inevitably rouses? He directed them to God’s Word.

When you cross deep rivers I will be with you, and you won’t drown. When you walk through fire, you won’t be burned or scorched by the flames. Isaiah 43:2

He showed from Isaiah 43 that God is always with us, even when life’s trials are “like waters, rivers, and fire.” Victor assured those who were grieving that God created them, provided for their salvation, and promises to always be with those who submit their lives to Him. The message brought hope in their despair.

He also spoke about the importance of doing good to each other as “trials can be very hot.” Victor pointed out that “doing good to all people” includes fellow believers.

From this small group of broken people, 40 made a decision to accept Christ as Savior and ten indicated they were willing to serve in ministry. Through Victor God spoke words of hope to replace their despair.

Reflecting on this ministry, Victor says, “God took control of everything... The people understood the message.”

Let’s allow God to take control so we can share a clear message of hope with our hurting world.
