After studying Global University’s course, Old Testament Literature: His Story, Nathan Ammon of Missouri was invited to speak to a group of 6th through 12th graders.
If you were to speak to a group of teens, what topic would you choose? Something upbeat? cool? dramatic? This was the question that Nathan faced.
God directed Nathan to challenge the youth regarding time: what is time, and how do we use time? Perhaps some of us might not consider this a fitting topic for the age group he would be addressing, but when God is leading, the topic He designates will always be pertinent.
Before speaking, Nathan spent a week in prayer, asking God to open the hearts of those young people. He was focusing on the idea that TIME IS LIFE, and as his text, he planned to utilize Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted..."
Forty teens attended the presentation. Nathan shared that God gives time to all of us—a fact that never changes. Everyone has time. He explained that each of us has a starting line and a finish line between birth and death. What we do with that time is what is important.
Nathan addressed the issue of death, pointing out that we all have a time to die. He made it clear that what we do with our time before we die will determine our eternal destiny. Nathan told them "We can choose today to die to Jesus, or face God’s judgment after we die."
He spoke passionately, helping the young people to see that we must spend our time well, faithful to the people God puts into our lives and the ministry in which God places us.
This message was time well invested, with great purpose for Nathan and for the youth,10 of whom accepted Jesus Christ as Savior.
Reflecting on this experience, Nathan said, "Time is something that is always moving forward; if I don’t move forward with it, I might miss what God has for me."
Thank God for young men like Nathan who enroll in Global University, knowing that time spent studying God’s Word and His ways, is time well spent. How do you use your time?
