SPRINGFIELD, Missouri- Global University President Dr. Gary Seevers, Executive Vice President Keith Heermann and Vice Provost Dr. Randy Hedlun recently traveled to Johannesburg, South Africa to participate in several important functions involving Global School of Theology (GST), Global University’s accredited entity in South Africa.
Dr. Seevers and Keith Heermann, who serve as members of GST’s Board of Directors, participated in the biannual board meeting. Keith Heermann also led a strategic planning session for GST board members and campus directors regarding the implementation of a marketing and recruitment program. Dr. Randy Hedlun assisted GST in their reaccreditation process, in addition to training the principal and staff of an Extension Bible School in Global University’s Berean School of the Bible program. GST is preparing to apply for the accreditation of the Berean program under the Further Education and Training level of the South African academic system.
In addition to these endeavors, a highlight of the trip was the opportunity to honor retiring International Assemblies of God (IAG) General President, Rev. Joe Hlangwane, who served in this position from 2001-2013. Rev. Hlangwane also served as the Chairman of the Board for GST, and was instrumental in securing the initial accreditation for the institution.
Elected as the incoming IAG General President is Dr. Gordon Lebelo, who previously served as the General Secretary for the fellowship. Dr. Lebelo will also take over the Chairman of the Board responsibilities for GST. The trio of men from Global were able to interact and begin strategic planning with Dr. Lebelo regarding the forward momentum of GST as they look to 2014.
Dr. Randy Hedlun reflects, “This was a fruitful trip, not only in terms of significant work accomplished, but also providing the opportunity to establish new contacts in the South African accreditation world and to nurture invaluable relationships with our South African brothers and sisters.“
