On July 1, 2016, Global University experienced several changes in the administrative structure of the Academic Division. Maintaining the highest standards of educational excellence, while honoring the personal wishes of current staff, three Global University staff members will assume new academic positions.
The first change to the Global University leadership comes on the heels of a personal request by Provost Dr. John (Jack) Nill to begin transitioning to a more focused academic role. Dr. Jack Nill, having served with distinction as Provost for five years, now serves as Vice Provost and continues to be a rich source of expertise in the new role of Vice Provost for Academic Support. This new position’s primary function is to continue developing and fostering accreditation relationships, capitalizing on a successful reaffirmation of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. This re-accreditation was led in large part by Dr. Nill, and in his own words, “This transition will allow for an even greater focus on university accreditation and specialty projects as we continue to move forward.” Dr. Nill’s commitment to the University values during his time as Provost was strengthened by his 40-plus years of ministry experience. Also a firm believer in the value of education, Nill previously served as Chair of Education at Southeastern University. Nill holds both a Master of Arts in Biblical Literature from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary and a PhD in Higher Education from the University of North Texas.
Dr. David De Garmo has now been named the new Provost of the University. Previously the Dean of the Graduate School of Theology, he brings to Global his experience from more than 20 years of pastoral ministry and more than a decade of academic leadership. His passion for Global University is evident. When asked about his role as Provost he said, “The office of the Provost is tasked with ensuring the highest standards of quality and providing a rich learning experience for every student in all four schools.” Prior to joining the Global family, De Garmo served SAGU American Indian College (previously American Indian College) as Department Chair for Christian Ministry, progressing to Academic Dean, and eventually President of the institution. In addition to this experience, Dr. De Garmo possesses a strong personal commitment to education. He holds both a Master of Divinity from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.
As a final change to the academic leadership, Dr. Randy Hedlun will fill the position of Dean of the Graduate School of Theology. No stranger to the Global family, Dr. Hedlun has held multiple Global University roles, excelling in each and continually following the call of God on his life. His journey with Global University began with editor and course writer positions, and eventually evolved into his most recent post as Vice Provost. Prior to joining the Global staff Dr. Hedlun demonstrated his passion for teaching, spending time as an educator with both Evangel University and Faith Christian High School located in Corpus Christi, Texas. Having received a Master of Theological Studies from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary and a Doctorate of Theology in New Testament Studies from the University of South Africa, Hedlun is clearly equipped to successfully represent and develop the graduate school in the future.
Global University consistently strives to maintain a standard of excellence that encompasses how the University operates in ministry. With the guiding hand of its leadership, the University will continue to uphold this standard of excellence. In the humble words of the new Provost, Dr. David De Garmo, “We are grateful for this opportunity granted by the University, President Seevers, and the Board of Directors to guide the continuing academic vision of Global University.”
