SPRINGFIELD, Missouri— On August 23, Global University, an accredited distance education university of the Assemblies of God joined thousands of volunteers from all walks of life in Springfield. Global joined the 20th United Way Day of Caring to reach out to the local Community.
The Global’s Day of Service, is a day in which Global University reaches out to the Springfield community to share the love of Christ by doing service-oriented ministry.
“It feels good to give back to the community, even in a small way, like we did today. It is good to get out of the four walls of Global and be in the community, interacting with other people, working toward a common goal of helping others,” said Carmen Burgess, Assistant Registrar at Global University. “While I interact with people all over the world on a daily basis, it is very important to me to be involved in the local community, representing Global and Jesus Christ.”
Global University along with employees from two other local organizations chose to serve at Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore on Scenic Avenue. Employees cleaned the grounds, trimmed trees, recycled plastics, organized siding and other materials, built a canopy and tore down a wall. Global University’s employees had an opportunity to share with others what the university does and proclaimed their faith in Jesus.
“It was a blessing having Global University here at the Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Springfield,” said Tommy Hawkins, Volunteer Coordinator. “All proceeds from this store go to build homes for underprivileged families.”
