Springfield, Missouri - Dr. George O. Wood, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, recently led “The Pit and the Cellar Expedition” in Armenia along with Dr. Gary Seevers, president of Global University, Ken Burtram, Superintendent of the Potomac Ministry Network, Joel Ellis, Vice President of Global Operations, Nicole Vicari, Director of Advancement and several key Assemblies of God pastors, leaders and their wives. The Armenia expedition took place May 30-June 6, 2014. This expedition included raising support for the launch of the Armenia Bible College–a truly historic event, as there are currently no Bible colleges in this country.
The expedition also included meeting key Armenian Pentecostal leaders and seeing firsthand the way God is moving in this strategic nation that is known as the first official Christian nation in the world (301 AD). The expedition toured two historic sites: the ‘Pit of St. Gregory’ and a cellar in the Republic of Georgia where the only Pentecostal church in the country existed for many years.
Dr. Wood spoke at an invitation-only meeting of approximately 2,000 Pentecostal leaders and believers in Yerevan. The culminating event of the trip was the meeting with Pentecostal leaders from three groups in preparation for the launch of the Armenia Bible College, a School of Global University. These groups have requested the assistance of Global University to launch Armenia Bible College and train missionaries. They desired to increase their effectiveness as “A Lighthouse for Christ in a Sea of Islam”.
The Unions believes that Armenia Bible College, a School of Global University, is key to their vision. They believe that the college can fully utilize the training model that Global University makes available to students and Bible training schools worldwide. Global University led this vision trip to increase awareness of the need to translate 48 Global University courses into the Armenian language.
